By Jesse Gamble on September 13, 2018

Hello Office Insiders!

We just released Version 1809 (Build 10827.20084), a preview of the September 2018 feature update for Office 365 subscribers. Give it a try. Just click File > Account (or Office Account in Outlook) Update Options > Update Now.

What’s new in Version 1809

Get their attention with @mentions

We’re big fans of working together on a shared document, and sometimes we need someone else’s feedback or help on a specific portion of the document. That’s why we’re excited to bring the @mention feature in comments.

When you comment on a document or presentation, you can use the @-sign followed by someone’s name, and the person you mention receives an email with a link to your comment. When they click the link, the shared document is opened, and they can join the conversation.

See it in action:

You can now @mention in Word and PowerPoint. We’re working hard to make it available in the new comment experience in Excel (available exclusive to our Office Insiders) soon.

New proofreading tools in PowerPoint

Last year, we’ve introduced the Editor feature in Word and Outlook. We’ve received lots of wonderful feedback from our Insiders and customers worldwide. We are happy to bring this feature to PowerPoint, and offer improved proofing and editing tools.

Don’t stress about crafting the perfect sentence or paragraph. The Editor in PowerPoint uses artificial intelligence and insights from our Office linguists to make grammar and writing suggestions. Really smart, right?

Your ribbon icons have a new look

We’ve redesigned the Office icons and made it look great on screens of all sizes. Don’t worry, everything works the same. The new ribbon icons are:

Easier to see

Crisp, clean lines and high-contrast colors make the Office icons easy to see at a glance

Never pixelated

The new Office icons scale to any device, so they always look their best.

No installation required

Your new icons are installed and ready to work when you are.

See what’s coming soon in Outlook

Occasionally, we’ll release a cool but potentially dramatic change in Outlook. The Coming Soon feature lets you try out a new feature within Outlook, learn about it, and share early feedback with us before it gets released broadly.

Features that are coming soon are not experiments, but full-fledged features, so their quality will be consistent with what you’ve come to expect from Outlook.

Reserving a room just got easier in Outlook

Looking for an available conference room? Room Finder makes it easier by showing you all the available rooms in more than one room list and lets you switch room lists without losing rooms you’ve already selected.

Outlook Search: Perfect spelling optional

Outlook Search just got smarter. When searching in your Inbox, you don’t need to worry about misspelling search terms. Just type what you’re looking for and let Outlook take care of any needed spelling corrections.

Ah yes, not ‘Microsfot’ but ‘Microsoft’! Thanks, Outlook!
