Announcing September Insider Slow update for Office for Mac (Version 16.17)

By Jesse Gamble on September 5, 2018

Hello, Office Insiders!

Today, September 5, 2018, we released an Insider preview of the September feature update for Office for Mac, Version 16.17.180904.

What’s new in Version 16.17

Insert 3D models to see all the angles

Time to get creative with 3D models! Easily insert a 3D model into your documents, workbooks, or presentations, and then rotate it through 360 degrees. Now that’s a new kind of clip art, right Clippy?

Draw with ink

Quickly turn your thoughts into action with ink in Office. The same inking feature that’s available in Office for Windows is now available in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for Mac. Use your mouse or touch pad, and the pens on the Draw tab to write, draw, and highlight. You can also connect an external tablet and pen to input and manipulate ink.

Strike through words to make them disappear, circle text to select, highlight with precision, or quickly write down notes on your slides, documents, or spreadsheets.

Get their attention with @mentions

We’re big fans of working together on a shared document, and sometimes we need someone else’s feedback or help on a specific portion of the document. That’s why we’re excited to bring the @mention feature in comments.

When you comment on a document or presentation, you can use the @-sign followed by someone’s name, and the person you mention receives an email with a link to your comment. When they click the link, the shared document is opened, and they can join the conversation.

Custom shortcuts are back

We heard you! We’re avid keyboard shortcut fans too! At your request, we’ve brought back custom shortcut keys. Using the Customize Keyboard feature, you can now assign your own key combinations to many commands within Excel.

Now tell us what’s your favorite keyboard shortcut in Excel?
